Aims: This is the third course in a three-year postgraduate core curriculum covering the main issues on respiratory physiology. The aims of this third module in the series are:
• to describe the physiological changes occurring during exercise, and identify the measurement techniques;
• to review the clinical impact of exercise testing during lung disease;
• to identify the diagnostic input of exercise testing in respiratory patients with cardiac dysfunction;
• to review the strategy of follow-up regarding exercise capacity during the treatment of chronic lung diseases.
