Aims: Today, there is a greater emphasis than ever on facilitating the patient to take an active role in their own disease management. Programmes exist for the ?expert patient? as well as many varieties of self management education, both disease specific and generic. This course aims to unravel what is meant by self management, for whom it does and does not work, as well as the evidence behind the various models and strategies available.
