Clinical relevance of COPD phenotyping

Symposium
Chairs: Dirk-Jan Slebos (Groningen, Netherlands), Huib A.M. Kerstjens (Groningen, Netherlands)
Aims: COPD is an important disease worldwide. However, the current treatments for COPD still lack sufficient efficacy, especially in terms of preventing disease progression and treating advanced stage disease. A better knowledge and understanding of the different COPD phenotypes will lead to a better understanding of the treatment choices; it will also help to promote the development of other treatments in the future. The main aims of the session are to describe the different phenotypes of COPD and the importance of these phenotypes for selecting the best treatments. Moreover, leading experts in the field will provide an update on the current and future treatment options for COPD.
