Educational aims

• To describe study designs for clinical and epidemiological research,
• To describe, using examples, the strengths and weaknesses of the different designs
• To describe the process of protocol development
• To provide the opportunity for students to develop a brief protocol, in small groups, during the course
• To review, with practicums, clinical concepts such as reproducibility, validity, interpretation of clinical tests
• To review the "tools" in the clinical researchers "toolbox", such as questionnaires, spirometry, chest radiographs etc
