Hot topicChairs: S. Belo Ravara (Covilhã, Portugal), F. Blasi (Milan, Italy), M. Gappa (Düsseldorf, Germany), E. Dagli (Istanbul, Turkey)
Aims: to describe the current on-going epidemic of acute lung disease reported in the US and present the clinical characteristics of patients admitted for severe lung disease requiring admission and reporting use of e-cigarettes; to highlight the findings of current studies examining acute and chronic effects of e-cigarettes and supporting their (lack of) safety; to debate what the respiratory physician might consider before recommending for or against e-cigarettes as smoking cessation add; to explore potential public health consequences of the use of e-cigarettes in different patient populations including children and adolescents;
To discuss actions that could be initiated by the respiratory health care community to mitigate future problems related to e-cigarettes
