Aims: to provide an update on key changes in the GINA 2019 strategy report, particularly those relating to prevention of exacerbations in mild and severe asthma, and an update on asthma management in children; to highlight current knowledge of the mechanisms underlying the adverse effects of ß-agonists in asthma and prevention of exacerbations associated with respiratory viral infections; to identify priority areas for future research and study designs in mild/severe and paediatric asthma.
