Aims: to describe 1) physio-pathologic assessment to stratify the risk in patients requiring major thoracic surgery, 2) thoracic surgical strategies to minimise perioperative risks, 3) non-invasive respiratory assistance to prevent and treat postoperative complications and 4) the setting and nursing care of high-risk surgical patients.
