Educational aims

Following this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the optimal implementation of comprehensive pulmonary rehabilitation strategies for patients with chronic obstructive and restrictive lung diseases.
  • Describe the different components of pulmonary rehabilitation and the necessary tools to assess the efficacy of this intervention.
  • Introduce in clinical practice novel patient reported outcomes and methods for assessing daily physical activity in patients with chronic obstructive and restrictive lung diseases.
  • Implement physical activity measurements to evaluate the patient's functional performance before and after pulmonary rehabilitation.
  • Appreciate the important adverse effects on functional capacity caused by abnormal haemodynamic function in patients with chronic obstructive and restrictive lung diseases.
  • Design a comprehensive pulmonary rehabilitation programme, taking into account patients' abilities and preferences, within a health care system.
  • Adapt programmes to accommodate comorbidities and other non-respiratory problems.
  • Propose strategies to enhance physical activity in individuals with lung disease.
  • Appreciate the barriers that prevent patients to enrol and complete pulmonary rehabilitation programmes.
  • Learn how to increase awareness and knowledge of benefits associated with pulmonary rehabilitation among health professionals and patients.
