Acute respiratory distress syndrome: from basic science to bedside

Aims: This symposium will:
• discuss new basic science data related to the pathophysiology of ARDS;
• present standards for the use of ventilatory management in ARDS;
• highlight the advantages and the limitations of different extracorporeal supports in ARDS;
• discuss when and how these treatments can be applied in ARDS.
