Educational skills workshop 4: Thoracic ultrasound
Educational WorkshopChairs: N. Maskell (Bristol, United Kingdom)
Aims: The main aim of this workshop is to allow participants to develop their practical skills in thoracic ultrasound, and does not require prior knowledge in this technique. A workshop tutor will demonstrate a procedure to each work group of eight participants and time will then be allocated so participants will have the opportunity to practice the procedure using the equipment. In total, participants will visit four different workstations and will have hands-on practical experience in the following areas: thoracic ultrasound of a normal human thoracic cavity; thoracic ultrasound of a pleural effusion or pleural thickening; thoracic ultrasound of pleural/lymph node biopsy; and at the final workstation participants will have an opportunity to discuss thoracic ultrasound case studies. At the end of the session, participants will have increased their knowledge of thoracic ultrasound as well as their practical skills and can count this course towards their HERMES training requirements.
