Aims: The aims of this session are: to present a state-of-the-art update on the physiology and pathophysiology of the upper airway in sleep-disordered breathing; to present current knowledge on how these advances may contribute to personalised medicine; to increase the knowledge and understanding of the physiology of the upper airway and how surgical treatment of the upper airway can be improved; and to highlight deficiencies in our knowledge of this area and to stimulate enquiry, research as well as collaborative work.
