Inhaled corticosteroids for asthma: on-demand or continuous use?

Aims: This symposium will provide the audience with: a review of recent advances in the basic pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of inhaled corticosteroid therapy, both when used intermittently and continuously; an overview of scientific evidence comparing continuous to on demand use of ICS in adults with asthma, both in primary and in secondary care; a review of the pros and cons of on demand vs. continuous use of inhaled corticosteroids in preschool children, school aged children, and adolescents with asthma, based on recent RCT evidence; and a presentation of all the scientific evidence in the clinical context.
