Bronchoscopy and ultrasound: Interstitial and pleural diseases

Live from the clinic
Chairs: P. Schenk (Grimmenstein-Hochegg, Austria), M. Schuhmann (Heidelberg, Germany), G. Massard (Esch Sur Alzette, Luxembourg)
Aims: Endoscopic procedures are important for diagnosing sarcoidosis and various other (fibrotic) interstitial lung diseases. Techniques to be demonstrated are: bronchoscopy with confocal laser endomicroscopy and transbronchial cryobiopsies, EBUS-TBNA and or EUS (B) - FNA. Pleural diseases are frequent for both malignant and infectious/inflammatory diseases. Thoracoscopy is the standard technique for the diagnosis of pleural diseases. Techniques to be demonstrated: rigid thoracoscopy. Transthoracic ultrasound is a helpful tool for investigating clinical problems such as suspected pleural fluid, white hemi thorax, atelectasis, empyema, and diaphragm function analysis. This session will demonstrate some of the most common investigations carried out using transthoracic ultrasound. Systematic assessment of the thorax using ultrasound and various abnormalities (e.g. effusion, atelectasis, empyema) and (post) COVID abnormalities will be demonstrated.

This session is supported by: Cellvizio, Cook Medical, Erbe Elektromedizin & Pentax Europe GmbH
