Prenatal influences on asthma and atopy

Aims: Participants will be able to describe what is currently known about the role of prenatal risk factors in the aetiology of childhood asthma, atopy and atopic disease. Data being presented will include some of the latest findings from birth cohort studies, including examples of the interaction between genes and environment in asthma aetiology. The session will clarify the need for new intervention studies aimed at primary prevention in pregnancy.
