Update on chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension

Assembly Symposium
Chairs: P. Herve (Le Plessis Robinson, France), I. Lang (Vienna, Austria)
Aims: Remarkable advances have occurred over the past two decades in the diagnostic approach, surgical management and postoperative care of patients afflicted with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Despite these advances, a great deal needs to be achieved if the mortality and mortality of the disease are to be reduced further. Major challenges would be to prevent development of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension by identifying the subset of patients with unresolved pulmonary embolism, to improve diagnostic evaluation with new imaging techniques, to better define the surgical selection of the patients and to evaluate new surgical and nonsurgical managements of this disease. This symposium brings together some exciting new developments that may provide possible therapeutic interventions.
