PG12 - Cardiopulmonary exercise testing and interpretation

Postgraduate Course
Chairs: L. Puente Maestu (Madrid, Spain), S. Ward (Leeds, United Kingdom)
Aims: This course will focus on practical aspects of clinical cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET). Indications, protocols, measurements and data interpretation will be discussed. The sensitivity and specificity of different response patterns will be reviewed. The implications for exercise-based intervention and prognosis will be discussed. At the end of the course, the participant will be able to:
• understand the physiological significance of cardiopulmonary response profiles, with reference to different cardiorespiratory diseases;
• utilise exercise testing and interpretation in the evaluation of patients undergoing exercise-based interventions;
• appreciate the value of CPET indices in prognostic outcome.
