Aims: This symposium will:
• increase awareness of the importance of HRQL assessment in patients with severe chronic respiratory failure;
• discuss methodological issues and difficulties when evaluating HRQL in these patients;
• present the latest information on the influence of medical treatments (noninvasive ventilation, long-term oxygen therapy and rehabilitation) on HRQL domains.
