Aims: The aim of this hot topic is to describe this newly described form of tuberculosis, focusing on the mechanism determining its selection and spread, as well as the implications and challenges XDR-tuberculosis poses to tuberculosis control and the possible approaches to tackle the epidemic. The hot topic offers the opportunity to discuss the activities of the STOP TB Europe Partnership (of which ERS is a key member) in the fight against XDR-Tuberculosis.
