Recurrence of lung cancer following resection with curative intent

Symposium

Aims: The aims of the symposium are as follows:
• to provide an insight into the way in which the narrowing of patient-selection criteria contributes to the minimising of lung cancer relapse;
• to explain how procedures that expand the pool of operated patients (split lung function tests, effort studies, extended resections and high-quality perioperative care) contribute to an increase in lung cancer relapse;
• to assess the benefit of rethoracotomy and completion-resection (lobectomy/pneumonectomy);
• to assess the benefit and limits of nonsurgical treatment.
