The evolving role of real-life research in respiratory medicine
Symposium Chairs: G. Brusselle (Ghent, Belgium), N. Roche (Paris, France)
Aims: The aims of this symposium are to:
- Present the relative benefits and limitations of different study designs;
- Describe the importance of choosing the study design to answer the question being considered;
- Describe the merits and limitations of real-life studies and how the limitations can be minimised by using high quality datasets and analysis approaches;
- Describe high-quality real-life studies that have been performed to date; and,
- Explain how real-life data, fit in the context of the Medical Research Council (MRC) framework for design and evaluation of complex interventions.
