Clinical utility of multiple breath washout (MBW): why is assessing ventilation inhomogeneity important?
Symposium Chairs: P. Gustafsson (Skovde, Sweden), P. Robinson (Sydney, Australia)
Aims: This lunchtime session will provide an understanding of the basic physiology underlying the measurement of ventilation inhomogeneity, including a discussion of the pros and cons of various methods. The clinical utility of measuring ventilation inhomogeneity in three clinical conditions, namely asthma, cystic fibrosis and COPD will be discussed. The audience will gain a better understanding of how to use a method that is of great interest to the broad respiratory community.
