Aims: The aims of this session are several and fold:
- to celebrate the contribution of professor Chung to the field of respiratory medicine in the form of a Sadoul lecture;
- to provide an overview on the links of basic science and every day clinical practice in the area of airway diseases;
- to give a current state of the art insight into the cellular and molecular mechanisms in chronic airway diseases; and
- to give inspiration for young scientist and clinicians to search for further understanding of asthma and COPD.
