Aims: This Hot Topic will:
• describe standardized methods for estimating COPD prevalence that can be used in countries at all stages of economic development;
• present new prevalence data from BOLD and PLATINO using recently-developed standardized methods, and according to different definitions for COPD;
• resent an economic model that can estimate country costs for COPD and project costs for 10 years;
• discuss the new data about influence of inhaled corticosteroid treatment on mortality. Target audience: Chest Phyicans, Pulmonary Specialists, Epidemiologists.
