PG18 - Basic principles of pulmonary rehabilitation

Postgraduate Course

Aims: This course will focus on practical aspects of pulmonary rehabilitation in chronic respiratory disease. Principles of trainability, assessment, programme design and clinical outcomes will be discussed. At the end of the course participants will be able to understand:
• the physiological significance and assessment of training interventions;
• what constitues a successful pulmonary rehabilitation programme;
• the long-term benefits for the patient with chronic lung disease. Target audience: Clinicians and scientists with an interest in cardiorespiratory medicine and clinical rehabilitation, exercise physiologists, and respiratory therapists. Participants will be expected to have some knowledge of exercise physiology.
