Aims: The specific aims of this course are:
• to define evidence-based medicine;
• to define evidence-based practice;
• to identify differences in the types of literature that the clinician should consider in patient care;
• to identify the criteria clinicians should use when evaluating recommendations on improving patient care;
• to list the successes and challenges associated with guideline implementation;
• to describe current literature as it relates to new guideline implementation processes;
• to list areas of future research in evidence-based medicine, evidence-based clinical practice and guideline implementation. Target audience: Respiratory and other clinical medical professionals and others generally involved in the production or implementation of guidelines and/or other uses of evidence-based medicine.
