PG7 - Paediatric respiratory medicine: allergy for paediatric pulmonologists
Postgraduate CourseChairs: M. Gappa (Hannover, Germany), P. L. P. Brand (Zwolle, Netherlands)
Aims: This is the first course in a three-year postgraduate core curriculum covering the main issues in paediatric respiratory medicine. This first module in the series will provide a comprehensive overview of allergic disorders and their diagnosis and management in the paediatric setting. Allergy is a topic of fundamental importance, which is often poorly taught and poorly understood, with very uneven distribution of services across Europe. The subject impinges on many respiratory diseases. There is, therefore, a need to provide core training in the spectrum of allergy diagnosis and management both for trainees and more senior consultants who require a refresher course. At the end of this course the participants will be able to:
• understand diagnostic pathways of allergy diagnosis;
• have an overview of the spectrum of common allergic disorders presenting to the paediatric pulmonologist;
• appreciate the range of treatment options available for children. Target audience: Paediatric pulmonologists in training and more senior consultants who wish to update their knowledge of the spectrum of allergy.
