PG1 - Respiratory infections: pneumonia/antibiotic resistance and clinical outcome of lower respiratory tract infections

Aims: The main target of this course is to update the participants on current advances in knowledge regarding the management of both community- and hospital-acquired pneumonia (CAP and HAP). At the end of this course participants will be able to:
• understand the correct methodological approach to the diagnosis of pneumonia;
• define the role of the noninvasive and invasive techniques for microbiological diagnosis;
• understand the advantages and the limits of prophylactic strategies;
• understand the value and the limits of current therapeutic indications. Target audience: Clinicians, microbiologists and public health specialists involved in lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) surveillance and control; research fellows and training specialists interested in updating their knowledge regarding the management of pneumonia.
