Scientific year in review

Hot topics
Chairs: M. Spiteri (Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom), R. Djukanovic (Southampton, United Kingdom)
Aims: This symposium presents some of the major advances in understanding the biological and molecular mechanisms underlying respiratory disorders. This state-of-the-art research can hopefully be translated in future to novel targeted therapies, which will greatly enhance the management of the respective lung disease. We particularly dedicate this symposium to Maurizio Vignola, whose tremendous scientific achievements and work within our Assembly were prematurely halted in December 2004.
