Aims: The symposium will describe issues of cost-benefit, quality control, data management, analysis and future directions of electronic and internet-based home monitoring of respiratory conditions in adults and children. At the end of the symposium, participants will be aware of the advantages and limitations of electronic monitoring compared with conventional monitoring in both clinical trials and clinical practice, and will have an overview of the practical, clinical and theoretical issues which should be taken into account when using these technologies.
