Aims: In recent years, novel and unusual pathogens causing lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) have emerged, leading to new threats for healthcare systems and public emergency. The main aim of this course is to update participants on current advances in the knowledge of these new and emerging pathogens. At the conclusion of this course, participants will understand:
• the correct methodological approach to the diagnosis of unusual pathogens;
• the role of public health, respiratory and infectious disease specialists in addressing new infectious agents;
• the advantages and limits of prophylactic strategies;
• the value and limits of current therapeutic indications.
