Aims: to provide skills and background knowledge needed to perform the hypoxic challenge test and oxygen assessments utilising blood gas analysis according to best practice and in accordance with the latest recommendations; to describe the basic principles, techniques and associated physiology for performance of the hypoxic challenge test, oxygen assessments and arterial/capillary blood gas analysis; to discuss standardisation of test performance in accordance with the latest best practice guidelines; to provide background knowledge needed to perform the tests, compile reports and interpret the results; to provide technical and physiological knowledge needed to perform the tests.
