Treatable traits in COPD rehabilitation

Year in review
Aims: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a heterogenous and complex disease with respiratory and extrapulmonary characteristics (also known as treatable traits). Identification and treatment based on treatable traits in multiple settings may ensure for a greater personalized approach in COPD treatment including pulmonary rehabilitation both in stable phase and acute exacerbations. Emerging evidence suggests that treatable traits model (based on symptoms beyond dyspnea and physical, emotional and social manifestations) may improve relevant outcomes in patients with COPD. Interdisciplinary pulmonary rehabilitation may improve treatable traits and ensure more personalized approach for the treatment of COPD.
