PG17 GRACE Postgraduate Course: Antimicrobial treatment of LRTI: important new aspects for clinical practice

Postgraduate Course
Chairs: R. Finch (Nottingham, United Kingdom), T. Verheij (Utrecht, Netherlands)
Aims: This is the 9th GRACE Postgraduate course. It will cover antimicrobial treatment in daily practice. In recent years important progress has been made in this field. There are new developments in the understanding of basic pharmacological mechanisms directly relating to antibiotic choice. There is a magnitude of new clinical trials, but how to really understand and, more importantly, interpret them for our own daily practice in hospitals and primary care is still unknown. This important issue will be addressed as well as the state-of-the art antibiotic choice illustrated by clinical cases from Northern and Southern Europe and primary care presented by leaders in the field.

HERMES SYLLABUS LINKS: A.1.5 Microbiology, B.3.2 Lower respiratory tract infections, B.3.3 Community-acquired pneumonia, B.3.4 Nosocomial pneumonia, E.1.1 Systemic/inhaled drug therapy, I.2 Statistics, I.8 Organisation of healthcare across Europe.

TYPE OF COURSE: Interactive, case, lecture, and problem based
