Live pulmonary endoscopy: Interstitial and pleural diseases
SessionChairs: Venerino Poletti (Forli, Italy), Najib M. Rahman (Oxford, United Kingdom)
Aims: Interstitial lung diseases constitute a significant part of the workload of pulmonologists. Sarcoidosis is the most prevalent interstitial lung disease and tissue confirmation is often needed. Novel endoscopic techniques that yield peripheral lung tissue are available. The techniques that will be demonstrated are bronchoscopy with BAL, TBNA and TBLB, cryobiopsies, EBUS, and EUS (B). Malignant and infectious/inflammatory diseases are often associated with pleural diseases. Thoracoscopy is the standard technique for diagnosing pleural diseases. The techniques that will be demonstrated are flexible and rigid thoracoscopy.
