EW9 Cardiorespiratory monitoring in critically-ill patients

Educational skills workshop
Chairs: Antonio Artigas (Sabadell (Barcelona), Spain)
Aims: A crucial skill for clinicians is to monitor patients in the ICU and other areas where the critically ill or unstable patient may be found (the operating theatre, post-operative care unit, and emergency department). This session will review the basic principles and current technology of critical care monitoring, with a special focus on cardio-pulmonary monitoring. With this course, we hope that clinicians will better understand the fundamental physiological and theoretical principles of monitoring, thereby enhancing their ability to use clinical data and recognise where errors may occur. This course is taught at the "virtual bedside" by using small groups and case-based scenarios.
Target audience: Consultant physicians in the pulmonary, critical care and anaesthesiology fields, residents in training, medical students, nurses, and respiratory therapists.
