Educational aims
Over the past decades, the prevalence of lung cancer has
progressively and dramatically increased. Owing to an aggressive
natural history, it represents the first cause of death from
cancer in the western world. Definitive cure can only be obtained
for early stage disease. It appears, therefore, important that
adequate management is offered to such patients. The basis of
treatment remains surgery, although recent investigations show a
slight increase of prognosis with multimodality strategies. The
aim of this 3-day course is to clarify contemporary concepts in
diagnosis, management and prognosis of early stage lung cancer.
