Target audience
Using a combination of hands-on workshops, lectures, case-based discussions, and computer-based interactive scenarios, the practical pleural skills course offers a unique opportunity to develop skills in a variety of pleural techniques. This course will look at the different aspects of thoracic imaging, including theory, evidence, technique, normal and abnormal appearances and application in clinical practice.
Educational aims
Upon completion of this course you will be able to:
- demonstrate basic techniques used in thoracic ultrasound and will have acquired theoretical knowledge to support this
- demonstrate basic techniques used in the insertion and management of indwelling pleural catheters and understand the evidence behind them
- demonstrate the basic techniques used in various forms of medical pleuroscopy and understand the evidence behind them
- recognise the importance and the role of pleural disease in the management of respiratory patients
